Drone footage: the right pass among hundreds of flights

Drone footage piles up fast and looks alike: ten passes over the same bay, five altitudes over the same field. A year later the library is hundreds of files named DJI_0001, DJI_0002 and so on, and nobody but the pilot can find their way around. Rescanzo searches by what’s visible in the shot.

Describing aerial shots

Name what you’d see from above, and the more detail the better: “flying over a river at sunset”, “road winding through a forest”, “old town rooftops”, “waves breaking on rocks”, “sunflower field, straight top-down”, “orbit around a stadium”. If too many shots look alike, add a detail you remember: time of day, weather, the colour of the water.

Why Low and Mid are enough

Drone footage almost never has speech, so Pro’s speech search is rarely needed here. Low at 1 token quickly tells you whether a pass exists in the library, and Mid at 2 tokens is more accurate and helps pick the best of several similar ones. Both run on your computer, and the library isn’t uploaded anywhere.

For stock sites and clients

If you sell footage on stock sites or hand compilations to clients, search by description quickly builds a themed set: every sunset, every city, every mountain range. Results go to Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve as a ready timeline, and for CapCut Rescanzo cuts separate clips.

Questions and answers

How much does a themed set cost?

One Mid search costs 2 tokens, so an “every sunset” set costs 2 tokens however many sunsets turn up.

Does the number of flights change the price of a search?

No. A Low search costs 1 token and Mid costs 2, however many files are in the folder.

Do I need to rename drone files?

No. Rescanzo searches by what’s in the frame; names like DJI_0042 make no difference.

Try it on your own footage

A new account gets 50 tokens: that's 25 searches in Mid mode.
